I’ve been getting a little stir-crazy here, it’s been 2 weeks of temperatures in the -20’s and -30’s lately (and that’s Celsius, and not factoring in the wind chill!) Needless to say, we’ve been spending a lot of time indoors. I haven’t shared my boys’ room in a little while, so on this chilly day I thought I would share a few of the small changes I’ve made in the boys’ room lately.
I “Marie Kondo’d” my kids’ dressers a few weeks ago, and it’s really helped the older kids choose their clothes. (My 3 year old still tends to toss things all over, so we are working on that!) They can easily see each item in their drawer, and there is less “digging” for what they are searching for. I picked up a few budget friendly bins from random places lately, and have been using them in the kids’ drawers. I love using plastic bins to help keep their clothes neat and tidy in the drawers. It’s a great way to separate their clothing and keep things tidy.
The other change in my boys’ room is the bed placement. The last time I shared my boys’ room, their beds were on a different wall. I decided to go with this arrangement, with one bed set back a bit in the little alcove.
I didn’t love how the beds didn’t line up, but the more I think about it, the more I think it works perfectly. The kids’ have a little more privacy this way, and they aren’t staring each other in the face when they go to bed! I am still loving these farmhouse beds I purchased for their room. Not only are they cute, but they are holding up well and they were so affordable!
This gorgeous blue and grey rug also still looks brand new, and I think it was the perfect choice for their room. The blues and greys in the rug go great with the “Stonington Grey” walls by Benjamin Moore, and the plaid duvet covers (from Ikea). The rug is definitely one of my favorites I’ve ever purchased, and I love the vintage look of it.
I also thought I would share these awesome fabric storage bins that I just stole from our nursery to use for storage in the boys room. They came in a set of 3 and work great in a cubby shelf. They come in many different colors—I also love these black and grey ones! I’m all about storage bins lately, as I’m sure many of you are if you’ve jumped on the “Marie Kondo” bandwagon like me! Our cubby shelf is from Ikea, but there are also many other cube shelves out there that are perfect for kids’ room storage.
When I moved the kids’ beds, the OCD side of me didn’t love were I had the wall art anymore, and I thought about moving things around for a symmetrical look again. But that would have involved moving my picture ledge shelf and patching holes, so I am embracing the asymmetrical look and am actually kind of loving it! This moon poster was an Amazon find; it is such a fun and inexpensive wall art idea for a boy’s room! I just hung it in a simple black poster frame.
So there you have it! I would LOVE to hear what you all think of the beds arranged this way! Drop me a comment below!

Beautiful room. Love the simplicity! How high is the picture ledge shelf from the floor to the bottom of the shelf? I just bought one and want to hang it up too…
