I typically post just about home decor projects, but today I am wanting to share something else I am passionate about—Young Living Essential Oils! I incorporate my diffusers and my oil storage shelf into my home decor, so really, you could technically consider this just another home decor post! Either way, I wanted to share with you a little about how I got started on essential oils. I have been using essential oils and Young Living products in my home for almost a year now, and I can’t even tell you how much I love them! It makes me feel like I am making healthy choices for my family by trying to create a chemical-free home.
I have been wanting a hexagon shelf to store my oils since I got started with them. A friend of mine made me this shelf, and I absolutely love it! She custom made it for me and stained it with this beautiful wood stain.

I had a hard time deciding where in the house to hang it though, because I thought it would look great in so many places in our home. Ultimately, I decided to hang it here in our walk through pantry, because it was a place that gave me easy access to the oils on a daily basis. The friend who made the shelf did an amazing job; the quality of workmanship is top-notch! I’d love to get another hexagon shelf with a mirror to hang in my bathroom for all my essential oils and bath salt jars.
How I First Got Hooked On Essential Oils
Every time I would clean the bathroom or kitchen with the typical cleaning products, (full of toxins and harsh chemicals), I would chase my kids out of the room because I didn’t think it was “safe” for them to breath in or touch. Often they were even wanting help me clean. That got me thinking—isn’t there something wrong with this picture? Shouldn’t my kids be allowed to and taught to help clean? I knew my sisters had both been raving to me about the Young Living Thieves Household Cleaner, which they were using as an all-purpose cleaner throughout their homes. My sister gifted me a bottle, and I can’t believe how much I love it! A little goes such a long way. I typically use a ratio of 1 part cleaner to 30 parts water in a glass spray bottle, so my one small bottle of cleaner lasts me months! I use my Thieves Cleaner to dust furniture, clean counters and the kitchen sink, the entire bathroom, windows and mirrors—it really is an all-purpose cleaner! I’ve even used this versatile cleaner to make homemade toilet bombs, which my kids love using to just toss in the toilet when it needs a bit of freshening up. We let it fizzle in the toilet for a few minutes, then I do a quick scrub of the toilet with a toilet brush and the toilet is nice and clean! Now, my kids love to help me clean. Their favorite thing to clean is their fingerprints on our large windows, and my daughter loves to clean her own bathroom (score!). I made up a bottle of Thieves cleaner just for her, that she keeps in her bathroom for when she gets the urge to clean! I also am LOVING the Thieves Laundry Soap. It leaves a very subtle nice light scent behind, not overpowering like so many laundry detergents!
One of the first oils I tried was Thieves Essential Oil (a blend of clove, cinnamon bark, rosemary, lemon, and eucalyptus), which I started diffusing in our home this past year. I also began using these little roller bottles to roll some Thieves and Lemon oil (diluted with coconut oil) on my kids this past year when they would show any signs of a cold. With 2 kids in school and extra-curricular activities, and bringing home those icky germs, I tried to be as proactive as possible by using Thieves in our home often to try to keep us all healthy. Our family got sick WAY less this past year, and the only thing I can attribute it to is using Thieves in our home. I’ve also started using Young Living’s body care products like their deodorant, shampoo and conditioner, body lotion, and their Saavy Minerals makeup, which I love so much!
Why I Chose Young Living:
There are so many other essential oil companies out there, which you’ve probably heard of, but many of them cut corners when distilling their oils. Their oils may be cheaper to purchase, but that often means they’ve cut corners in the production of their oils. Many of these oils contain additives or fillers which is just plain scary! I love that I can trust Young Living products, and I feel comfortable using them in my home and around my kids. Young Living has a Seed to Seal promise, which means they have a high standard for distilling their oils. Their oils are organic, the soil they grow the plants in is pesticide and chemical free, and you can even go visit their farms to see for yourself! I haven’t been yet, but I’ve heard the lavender fields are AMAZING! Young Living Essential Oils are 100% PURE, unlike many other oil companies which claim to be pure but are not.
Are You Ready to Get Started?
If you want to get started with Young Living, one of the best ways is to purchase a starter kit and enroll as a member. Ordering the kit is the best way to save money if you want to try out a variety of things, plus it gives you access to the 24% off pricing! I ordered a Premium Starter Kit which contains 11 different oils. My favorites in the kit were Thieves and Frankincense! You also get your choice of diffuser (I love the Desert Mist, but the DewDrop is awesome too!) and lots of other samples of other products.
- Enroll as a Member and choose a Starter Kit by clicking HERE. Be sure to enter my sponsor ID number 12747216 in the “Enroller” and “Sponsor” boxes if you would like to be a part of my team. (And please note, being a member does NOT mean you have to sell! It just gets you the discounted 24% off prices, which is totally worth it!) There are lots of kit options to choose from! The one I chose was the Essential Oils Premium Starter Kit with the Diffuser because I was really curious about all the oils, but there are other kits to choose from also! My mom chose the Premium Starter Kit with Thieves, which is a great way to get started switching over to a chemical-free home!
- Optional: The Essential Rewards program is completely optional. I signed up for it because I was ordering things for our home that I would need to buy anyway, so I might as well order them from Young Living and know they are chemical free! Basically, the Essential Rewards program is a monthly autoship order where you can customize what you would like to order each month. There are some great benefits to signing up, like reward points, exclusive promos, discounted shipping rates, and FREE oils! You can cancel at any time, so there is really no down side! I can stock up on laundry soap, baby products, makeup, shampoo, lotion, hand soap, cleaning products, deodorant, vitamins, oils, etc. (The minimum each month that you need to spend to stay on the Essential Rewards program is 50PV – which works out to about $50 a month if you are in the US, and a little more if you are in Canada, like me.) My kids are always so excited to get our package of oils each month, and so am I! For me, enrolling in the Essential Rewards program made sense, but it is up to you to decide if it is right for you or not.
- Lastly, I can help connect you with the amazing Facebook community help page that I am a part of which is where I go to for ideas or any questions I might have! These people have been so helpful when it comes to recommending products and they have taught me so much about the many uses of essential oils.
