All this time spent at home lately has me wanting to organize and change all the things! A few months ago we switched bedrooms for my oldest and youngest. Now, my two younger boys share a room and my older son has his own room. However, the nursery decor is now mixed in with my son’s things. The plan is to make my son’s room feel special and more like his own again.
Here’s a photo of what the nursery looked like:
I loved this room as a nursery. Unforunately, I really don’t have a photo of the in-between stage of this room. Imagine the crib gone and a black Ikea Hemnes bed in here. He had a white dresser where the wicker basket is. Everything on the wall was still the same. This rug was moved to my daughter’s room and we had a round red rug in here. It was really just a mis-match of everything and anything. Also, imagine it full of tons of LEGO!
To help guide my design decisions, I made myself an inspiration board. This was helpful because I tend to get sidetracked with too many ideas, and then they don’t necessarily all work well together in the end. Some things on the board are items we already own, some are similar to items we own, and others are items I’d like to add to the space later.
The first thing I decided to do though was paint a feature wall. I went with Sherwin Williams “Slate Tile” which is a beautiful dark grey-blue color. I’ve considered doing a “sharpie-shiplap” treatment to feature wall, but for now I’m kind of loving how it looks as is. I’ve also thought about painting the other walls white. I don’t mind painting, but it’s the prep work that I always dread. Filling nail holes, taping, taking down curtain rods—that I could do without! Right now I’m planning to leave the walls grey because it’s just easier!
I’d love to get a new rug for my son’s room, so he has a cozy spot to sit and play. I love this rug because it is shaggy, soft, and neutral so goes with any decor.
I still have more work to do in here, but here is a sneak peak at this side of the room!
I’m so happy with the how the wall color looks. It is so satisfying to paint with a bolder color! Now, the plan for today is to tidy the other side of this room and get rid of the nursery decor. It feels bittersweet to be taking down nursery decor! On one hand, being out of the baby stage is wonderful. On the other hand it feels like the end of an era.
What do you all think of the feature wall color? Should I paint the other walls white? I’d love hear your feedback!

Thanks, Shawna! It really is a beautiful shade of blue! I almost wish I bought a bigger can of paint so I could go paint something else!
