I’ve been wanting to decorate my patio for a while now, and I finally got around to it this summer!

We have a wrap around porch and a walkout basement, so quite a bit of patio space. It’s a nice shady area for hosting guests so I really wanted to make good use of it.
I have a set of patio furniture that I purchased from Walmart a few years ago (this patio set is similar). I’d love to get a cozy sectional couch, like this one, but my furniture is completely functional. I would have preferred to have seating cushions in a lighter, more neutral color, but I decided to work with what I had.
I picked up a few cushion covers and pillow inserts from Ikea to dress up the furniture a bit. I’ve been on the hunt for an outdoor rug (see this post for more about that!) and ended up finding this great outdoor rug at Home Depot. I’m so happy with it! This one is 6’x9′ and I think it is the perfect size for the space, and the price was right. I love the neutral colours in it, and it says you can hose it off if it gets dirty (I haven’t had to try that yet!). I looked at multiple stores and searched online, and this was a great deal for what I was searching for.
Here are a few of the other rug options I considered. I was looking for a rug that would compliment my furniture, but that would also be durable in the outdoors.
I’ve been loving striped ticking pillows lately, and I found mine at Ikea. They are actually reversible, but I prefer the striped side. I also bought these plain white ones and a longer knit pillow with buttons. Not sure how clean things will stay, but I can easily toss the pillow covers in the wash if needed.
I found these concrete planter pots at Home Sense which I love (these concrete pots are similar), and the stool was a Kijiji purchase that I’m using as a plant stand. I chalk painted and distressed some dollar store terra cotta pots for the table centerpiece (see this post for more info on that project), and I placed the pots in a shallow rattan basket that I bought off Wayfair. I went to pick up 1 or two plants to fill my empty pots at the greenhouse the other day, and came out with a whole tray of plants, because they were on sale for $10 for a whole tray. Such a good deal! I mostly bought some begonias and impatients because this patio space is quite shady most of the day.
I placed this round rattan tray on the coffee table, and filled it with extra flower pots. I also love this metal tray with rope handles!
I am still planning to hang some string lights in this space, but I haven’t gotten around to that yet. I really wanted to hang some white sheer curtains in this space also (I still might!) but my husband vetoed that idea. He thinks they will just get dirty, and he’s probably right. Our backyard is already nice and private, so we don’t really need something to close off for privacy. For me, I just wanted curtains to add some cozy comfort to the space—to make it feel more inviting, like being in a living room. What do you guys think? Has anyone hung curtains outside? How have they held up?

We have a semi private backyard- our patio is partially covered and I thought of adding a curtain or two for that cozy /warm look – my husband not liking that idea though. You make decorating look so easy. Love what you’ve done with your patio. I have the same set, so you have given me some inspiration:)

Hi Lynn! I’m not sure why the husbands don’t like the curtain idea?!! I am so glad to have inspired you—that is always so nice to hear!
