I recently decided it was time to upgrade our just-turned 3 year old to a big boy bed. Not because the crib wasn’t working out anymore, but mostly because I had dreams of two matching beds in a beautifully decorated shared bedroom for my boys! I know, I know—why mess with a good thing? My son slept great and didn’t climb out of his crib (well, he did once and kind of hurt himself so was too scared to do it again!), but because sometimes it’s just fun to have a new decor project! It’s always exciting to have a new project on the go. Two of our boys share a bedroom, and our oldest son has an Ikea Hemnes bed. It has worked just fine, and I probably could have purchased another one to have the matching bed effect. I’ve been looking online at metal farmhouse beds and I love the style of the metal, antique-like ones. So, I decided to go for it and purchased this metal farmhouse bed.
Ultimately, I decided on this metal farmhouse bed because it was actually ended up being cheaper than getting another Ikea bed. It even arrived on my son’s actual birthday, which was perfect! We set it up right away, and my son was so thrilled with it.
We already had one of these Ikea plaid duvet covers for our oldest son, and I was able to buy a matching one for the new bed. (These plaid duvet covers are similar). I love that they look boyish, yet they are something the kids won’t grow out of. The striped pillow is also from Ikea, and they are a nice thick canvas material and I love the quality. They were on clearance so that was a bonus, but I don’t think Ikea carries them anymore. I’m a huge fan of feather pillow inserts for throw pillows, because they seem better quality and you can position them just the way you want them (eg. place the perfect “hand chop” in the middle of your pillow!)
I would love to hear what you all think of my son’s new bed! Stay tuned for more developments in my sons’ bedroom!
