This weekend I’ve been on a mission to create an organized playroom for my children. When the playroom is clean, the kids always seem to enjoy playing in there more. They actually have space to play and they can find what they want to play with much easier. We are lucky enough to have a large playroom in our basement. However, it is almost always a disaster zone!
We have accumulated a lot of toys over the last 6 years. So I am just starting to feel like we can get rid of a few of the “baby” toys now that our youngest is one year old. I am trying to be better about rotating through the toys for the kids. But before I can adequately adopt a toy rotation system, I first needed to re-sort through the toys and find a place for everything.
We bought our two white cube shelves from Ikea (these cube shelves are similar) to use as toy and book storage, and they work perfectly. We have a bin for blocks, board books, cars and diggers, V-tech tracks, and a bin for random toys. The kids can pull out the bin of toys they want to play with, and then throw everything back in when they are finished. These foldable bins would also work great in a cube shelf like this! Of course, like any parents, we are still working hard at teaching the kids to clean up their toys before they get out something new, so it’s still a work in progress around here! I also bought a set of these storage bins that also fit perfectly in our shelves, which I plan to use in my son’s nursery.
I am always looking for some great storage options, and was so glad I found these metal baskets at Michaels for buy one get one free. They actually say “Etc” on one side, but I just turn them around because I prefer them that way. This 3 piece metal basket set is similar. I love baskets for toy storage because they look beautiful and are so functional!
I love having a kids activity table in our playroom. The kids love to play “school” or sit and play games or do puzzles at this table. We have also had countless tea parties at this little table! My husband’s grandpa actually made this table for us, which makes it all the more special. The little blue chairs were old chairs that our church was getting rid of that I sanded down and painted. This white kids’ table and chair set would also be adorable in a kid’s playroom!
The train table is probably one of our best decisions in the playroom. It has a huge drawer that is the BEST storage solution for all the train accessories. We have acquired quite the train collection, so the huge storage drawer has been so handy for easy storage for the kids train accessories. It is on casters so it easily rolls in and out on the floor. This train table has contributed to many hours of fun. Our son has become quite the problem solver when it comes to strategically fitting together the train tracks!
It’s nice to have a cozy place to curl up and read books with the kids, so I moved our love seat couch to this wall in our playroom. I love having a shag rug in our playroom, because it makes for a comfy place to sit and play with the kids. This similar shag rug is a budget friendly option!
It’s so fun to choose art for a playroom, and I think these map prints were the perfect choice. I saw them in a friend’s home, and I think they are the perfect choice. Not only are they adorable, they are educational, too!
What do you all think of our newly organized playroom? I hope we can at least keep our playroom semi-organized! I find myself spending more time playing with the kids downstairs when it is clean, which can only be a good thing! The kids are loving their playroom space. Thank you, Rebecca! I couldn’t remember the name of it, so I went and checked the paint can downstairs! It is “Gossamer Blue” by Benjamin Moore. 🙂

Where are the white bins in the cube shelf from? I like that they have a different pull!
Valley + Birch says
Hi Gabby! The white bins in the cube shelf are from Ikea! The pull is definitely handy and makes them easy to pull out.
