If you’ve been following my blog or Instagram feed for a while now, you’ll know that I love a good rug! Neutral rugs go a long way in helping pull a room together. They are so versatile and go with anything!
Lately, I’m loving the soft, cozy ambiance of a room in a neutral palette. Various textures of whites, greys, and creams mixed with wood accents…ahhh…so calm and welcoming! Neutral rugs are fabulous because it’s a simple fix when you get tired of a neutral palette. For instance, just add a pop of color with throw pillows or other accessories!

So today I thought I would round up some of my favourite neutral rug options. Some are soft and subtle, with a vintagey vibe, and others have bolder patterns and more of a modern look. Whatever your style, these are all great options.

The Rug List
Many of these rugs I own personally, and I’ve included pictures from my home. Others are rugs I’ve been drooling over for some time! In those cases, I’ve included pictures from some of my favourite homes on Instagram. A special thank you to my friends that allowed me to use their beautiful photos! Don’t forget to check out their Instagram feeds which I’ve linked along with each photo!
Rug #1
First up is this beautiful rug from Angela Rose’s living room (pictured below)! The neutral black and ivory pattern goes perfect with the wood tones in her flooring, beam, and coffee table. If I ever buy a new rug for my living room, this would probably be it! (Photo by: Angela Rose @angelarose_diyhome)
Rug #2
Next up—my best rug buy ever! I have two of these neutral rugs, and I can’t say enough good things about them! We have one in our living room and the other in our master bedroom. I’ve gotten so many compliments on this rug. I love that it reads both modern and vintage. It’s held up really well with 4 kiddos and a cat! (Pictured below in my home @valleyandbirch.)
Rug #3
Another beautiful option (that I also own!) is this ivory and grey rug. It has subtle floral pattern and a vintagey vibe to it. So—it’s basically perfect for the modern farmhouse decor lover! (The rug in the photo below is in the stunning living room of Shawna @willowbloomhome.)
And here is the same rug, pictured in our nursery! @valleyandbirch
Rug #4
Another similar rug is this one that I’ve had over a year now. I absolutely love it—it’s in a high traffic area with lots of shoes and boots tracking in mud and snow! It’s held up great and all I’ve done is vacuum it occasionally. (Below is the rug pictured in my front entry @valleyandbirch.)
Rug #5
We have this grey vintage rug in our basement media room. I love how soft it is on the feet! I’ve shared these photos before of my basement media room/living area on my Instagram feed.
Rug #6
Another indoor/outdoor option is this braided rug that’s perfect for an entryway or mudroom. A rug that doesn’t show the dirt and that you can easily hose off is definitely a plus for a high traffic area! (Pictured below is this rug in Erica @our_forever_farmhouse ‘s beautiful mudroom entry.)
Rug #7
I love the aztec-y (is that a word?) pattern on this shag rug. It’s the perfect rug when you want to amp up the coziness of a space. (Pictured below in an awesome shared boys bedroom, by Jess @houseon77th.)
Rug # 8
I love the vintage vibe of this grey and white rug. The price is soooo good for even an 8′ x 10′ large area rug too! (Below is the rug pictured in the lovely home of Holly @purplepeonyhome.)
Rug #9
Next up is this budget-friendly beauty! If you are looking for a larger area rug but have a small budget, this is a great option! It comes in grey and beige, so it suits basically any room. I love how it looks in Holly’s living room! (Pictured below in the home of Holly @purplepeonyhome.)
I hope this list of my favourite neutral rugs was helpful for anyone searching for a budget friendly rug. I always find it helpful to see the rugs pictured in actual homes! There are many awesome reviews on all these rugs as well—be sure to read up of them so you aren’t missing any important information or details!
