So it snowed yesterday. Not just a little bit either. The ground here is still covered today. My kids even built a snowman (and named him Olaf!), because it was the perfect sticky snow. I can’t believe there are still officially a few more days of summer, and we already have snow! What about fall?! I love fall, when the trees turn colour. It’s such a beautiful time of year. It just doesn’t last long it seems around here. A couple windy days, and the leaves are all on the ground. The leaves are just starting to turn, so it looks strange with the green leaves all snow covered. On a positive note though, the grass is looking much greener under the snow. It needed the moisture!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I’m going to decorate for fall. You can check out this post and this one for some of my fall decor ideas! With snow in the air, but fall on my mind, I was feeling crafty yesterday and made a stop in at a couple dollar stores to see what materials I could find for some fall crafts. If you follow Natalie @vintageporch on Instagram, you may have seen in her stories how she made a fall floral arrangement from Dollar Tree florals. I was feeling inspired, and picked out some florals at Dollar Tree that I liked, and ones where the colours worked together. I also picked up some burlap ribbon, a wreath wire ring, and some metal words to make a burlap wreath. I found a couple unfinished wood plaques that I also thought would make fun DIY projects.
This floral arrangement was the easiest thing ever. For a container, I used a vintage crock that I had on hand. You could also use a stoneware vase like this one or this one. I grabbed my Dollar Tree florals and spread out the flowers a bit on each stem. I then placed them in the crock one stem at a time. I tried not to group too many of the same colour together, so it looked more natural. I thought it turned out really nice! All these florals were from Dollar Tree, except the green and white leaves that I had on hand that were from Michael’s.
The burlap wreath was also easy to make. There are tons of tutorials out there for how to make a burlap wreath, but it was much easier than I expected. I followed the tutorial that Dale @bloomingdiyer mentioned in her Instagram stories. After maneuvering a roll of burlap onto the wreath ring, I just simply clipped the florals off their stems, and then hot glued them on the wreath.
It was super easy. I found some cute creamy white lace ribbon and tied a bow and glued that at the bottom. The word “Harvest” is made of galvanized metal and was from Dollar Tree. It came in a 3-pack with the words “Welcome” and “Thankful”. Ultimately, I decided on the word “Harvest” because I thought I could make use of the other words elsewhere. I love these metal words! I think they look much more expensive than they were. I considered spray painting the word a creamy white to make it show up just a bit better on the burlap wreath, but didn’t have any spray paint so I decided to leave it. When the light reflected off of it, it was quite easy to see. I hot glued the word on the wreath. It was a little tricky since the letters are quite thin, but I managed to do it without leaving too big of a mess of glue.
The third project I tackled, my Thankful sign, was the easiest of all. I stained one of the wooden plaques that I bought at Dollarama with my this wood stain. I let it dry overnight and then hot glued on the word Thankful. It already had the rope on it for hanging. I just put a few dabs of hot glue on the back of the word and then stuck it on the plaque before the glue set. How cute and easy was this?!
Fall decorating doesn’t have to be expensive—my supplies were almost all from dollar stores. I love the sense of accomplishment that a DIY project gives! How many of you have started decorating for fall? I hope this gives you some inspiration for fall decor for your home!

I really like your crafts you made, especially the wreath and the Thankful sign! Very festive! They do look more expensive than you’d think.

Thanks, April! They were so simple and easy to make! And cheap is always good too!
